Section 7
Actions to be taken by the Postal Director in relation to insured postal items if they cannot be delivered

The Director of Posts shall take the following actions in relation to every insured postal item that cannot be delivered to the addressee and returned to the sender as written in section 6:-
(a) As far as possible, the postal item shall be delivered or returned to the addressee or sender as the case may be by post without opening it.
(b) If it appears that the status quo cannot be explained without opening as per Clause (a), the Post Director or an officer authorized by him for that purpose shall secretly open the postal item and find out the name and address of the sender and try to return it to the sender.
(c) If it cannot be delivered as per Clause (a) or (b), the details of such postal items shall be published in the Nepal Gazette and preserved in the Department of Posts of the Government of Nepal for a period of 1 year, and if the rightful person is not found even within that period, the said postal items shall be cashed. In the case of rupees, in cash and in the case of other salable goods, the cash that has been sold will be deposited in the name of the Government of Nepal.
